Code F: Code of Practice on Visual Recording with Sound of Interviews with Suspects
Code F governs the visual recording with sound of police interviews with suspects. It operates alongside Code E and applies where a police station has the equipment to record interviews by video. Visual recording provides an additional dimension to the record of an interview, capturing not just what was said but also the demeanour and condition of the suspect and the interviewing officers. The code is not mandatory at all stations but applies wherever equipment is available and its use is practicable. It sets out procedures largely mirroring those in Code E, adapted for the additional requirements of video.

The relevant officer decides whether to use visual recording. If the suspect objects, the officer decides whether to turn off the recording.
