About Policing.uk
A free reference to policing law in England and Wales.
Policing.uk is a free reference to policing law in England and Wales, run by HCEO LTD. It covers police powers, offences, the PACE codes, your rights, the 47 police forces, and a Learn section for recruits, policing students and serving officers.
Every page shows when it was last updated and, where a person has checked it against the source, when it was reviewed. Where a page lists its sources, the Acts, sections and Codes are linked so you can read the original. It is educational information, not legal advice.
Learn
The Learn section sets out the route into policing, the selection process, the ten units every recruit covers, the promotion and investigators’ examinations and the aide-memoires officers are taught early on. It is written from College of Policing, SFJ Awards and Skills England documents, each named on the page.
Who runs it
HCEO LTD, company number 13112735, registered at Seven Grange Lane, Pitsford, Northampton. Policing.uk is edited by hand by Morgan Sheldon, a former Hampshire Constabulary police officer who served on a priority crime team, and since 2021 an authorised High Court enforcement officer. There is a monthly check of commencement orders and amendments on legislation.gov.uk. How that works is on the data accuracy page.
HCEO LTD also publishes Enforcement.uk, a free reference on the enforcement of judgments in England and Wales. The company’s own site is hceo.com.
Getting in touch
Policing.uk does not give advice or take complaints. The contact page lists who can help with legal questions, complaints about the police and court matters, and how to report an error on a page.
