Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act 2000
- 2000
- Primary
The Act that regulated covert surveillance, undercover policing, and the interception of communications by public authorities, before the more comprehensive Investigatory Powers Act 2016 replaced much of its provisions. RIPA still governs directed and intrusive surveillance by public authorities below the threshold of bulk powers, as well as the use of covert human intelligence sources (informants and undercover officers).
