PND
- General
The Police National Database is a national intelligence-sharing platform used by UK law enforcement. It provides access to locally held intelligence and soft intelligence across all 43 forces in England and Wales, as well as other agencies. Unlike the PNC which holds formal records, the PND includes intelligence logs, domestic abuse records, child protection information, and other sensitive data.
In practice
PND access is role-based and strictly controlled. Authorised officers may search the PND to build an intelligence picture on a subject or vehicle. Information from the PND must not be disclosed inappropriately. Improper access to the PND is a data protection breach and may constitute a criminal offence under the Computer Misuse Act 1990.
